Astute Education & Psychology Centre aims to provide highly professional and personable services to all clients in a comfortable and secure environment. The well experienced and caring psychologists at Astute Education & Psychology Centre are committed to the wellbeing of all clients.

Our Psychologists

The psychologists at Astute Education & Psychology Centre focus on the promotion of client happiness and well-being. They are devoted to providing a quality service that respects individual choice and the dignity of all individuals. The psychologists are registered with the Psychologist Registration Board of Australia and have full memberships with the Australian Psychological Society. A number of our psychologists are Endorsed Clinical, Forensic or Counselling Psychologists.

Carmel Wauchope MAPS (Clinical & Counselling Psychologist)


Principal psychologist Carmel Wauchope has 20 years experience working as a psychologist in Victoria and South Australia. She has Chaired of the Australian Psychological Society SA State Branch and is a Member of the Clinical and Counselling Colleges of Psychologists.

Carmel’s therapeutic and intervention work includes working with complex families, individuals, adolescents and children on a range of issues including relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, anxiety and depression. The theoretical framework of her work is Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is underpinned by her own mindfulness practice and a practical application of child development knowledge and behaviour education. This practical application is demonstrated in the co-parenting of her and her husband’s four children / young adults.


Jonathan Osis MAPS (Clinical Intern, Psychologist)


Jonathan joined our team in 2015 and has a keen interest in providing support to children and adolescents and their care givers many with complex needs regarding difficulties experienced within the home and within the school environment. He provides therapy tailor made to support the individuals needs and to ensure consistency of care for children and adolescents. Jonathan is also currently working within the school system to provide therapy to school age children. Jonathan has also successfully provided services to people living with disabilities to encourage and support their community involvement and social interaction ultimately improving the mental well being of those living with disabilities. Jonathan is interested in the process and outcomes of psychological assessments and has been providing this service to a wide variety of individuals and organisations for the purpose of individual career direction, academic direction and the development of programs to assist the individual within the school, workplace or home.
The basis of his practice is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness.


Robert Elmer MAPS (Clinical & Forensic Psychologist)


Robert Elmer is a psychologist with a broad background in working with adults, youth and their families. He initially worked as a counsellor in South Australia and Tasmania using Experiential and Transactional Analysis techniques to assist young people with severe behavioural issues. He has been a practitioner of meditation and Integral Yoga for 30 years after studying and teaching in India and Australia. He is a registered member of the Australian and British Psychological Societies and for the past ten years he has been providing psychological assessments and interventions in both individual and group settings for adults with a variety of presenting issues.

Robert is an experienced practitioner in CBT, Behavioural and Mindfulness techniques and has recently returned from working in Britain as a Chartered Psychologist developing Mindfulness techniques for psychiatric patients in a private hospital setting. Married, and a father of two very independent adult children, he is also an enthusiastic sailor, trekker, traveller and sometime handyman.


Dr Michael Proeve MAPS (Clinical & Forensic Psychologist)


Dr Michael Proeve is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years’ experience of assessment and psychological intervention, having worked with adults in public mental health and correctional settings in Victoria and South Australia. He has worked as a psychologist in prisons and community forensic mental health and was director of a treatment agency for sexual offenders. Prior to his current work at Adelaide University as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology, Michael has also worked as an academic in two other universities, training postgraduate students in clinical and forensic psychology. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society Colleges for clinical and forensic psychology.

Michael’s primary theoretical approach is cognitive-behavioural therapy; he is also trained in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). He utilises mindfulness meditation in his work and personal life. He is married with three children.


Judith Slater MAPS (Clinical Psychologist)


Judith is a clinical psychologist experienced in working with adults from late teens through to the elderly. She specializes in the treatment of depressive disorders and a range of anxiety disorders including Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, OCD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Adjustment disorder. Her background working in various settings such as the Centre for Treatment of Anxiety and Depression and Anxiety Disorders and Trauma Clinic have underpinned her interest in these areas.
Judith’s principal treatment modality is cognitive-behavioural therapy; she also incorporates the theoretical frameworks of schema therapy, mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy into her treatment approach. Judith holds full membership with the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists. She is married with two adult children.
