Get Lost Mr Scary

Get Lost Mr Scary is a cognitive behavioural program that helps children (aged 5 – 8) develop skills to cope with fears and worries. These worries might be general fears or a more specific phobia. It is an experiential program and incorporates a lot of play and fun activities.

The group runs for six weekly sessions of approximately 60 minutes, with a one-off booster session six weeks after completing the group. There are two parent sessions one at the beginning and one at the end of the group.

This program is limited to 6 to 8 participants and includes resources for both the participants and their parents to assist in developing positive coping strategies for worries and fears as they come up in daily life. Parents will receive a report comparing their child’s anxiety levels before and after the program.

All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

The next program will be starting Term 3, 2013. For enquiries and bookings call Astute on 8373 7620. Places are limited for this program.

Tuning In To Kids

At Astute Education & Psychology Centre, we are pleased to be offering a 6 - session parenting program to parents of pre-schoolers and young children.

Tuning In To Kids is a parenting program that is aimed at helping children to learn, understand and regulate their emotions.

Facilitated by trained professionals, parents are taught over six sessions various techniques to aid them in developing their awareness of not only their own, but also their children’s emotions. From this, skills will be taught in how applying this awareness of emotions can be used to become more in tune with their children in assisting problem solving and guiding behaviour.

Research into this program has shown that parents who apply the techniques learnt from the course, have found improvements in their children’s social skills, competence and behaviour. In particular, it has been noted that the programme is particularly effective for children with behaviour or anxiety problems.

Sessions are 2 hours long.

For further information or questions with regard about the groups, please contact Astute Education & Psychology Centre on (08) 8373 7620 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Details can also be accessed through the Tuning Into Kids website:
